Where to Stay While Honeymooning in French Polynesia

Prior to writing this article, Matt and I would like to send our special thanks to Rhonda who was our Travel Agent with Park Cities Travels. With the Covid pandemic, Matt and I had absolutely no idea where to start or what to do when the time came for us to start planning our Honeymoon. Rhonda was an excellent travel agent and has a worldwide network of resources (literally), she was such a huge help to us as we planned our trip. We highly recommend booking your next big trip through Rhonda at Park Cities Travels!

We started planning our wedding and our honeymoon prior to COVID-19 pandemic. Originally, our plans was to take a small trip a few days after the wedding and a BIG trip to New Zealand later in the year. Then the COVID pandemic arrived and like many things our hopes on going to New Zealand were thwarted. To further complicate our goals, many other countries (like New Zealand) had also closed their borders to tourists. At that point we were stuck in a quandary and did not know what to do or where to start. Our Travel Agent, Rhonda, was such a huge help. Once we finally decided where we wanted to go, we just gave Rhonda our final budget and she did all the rest. She booked our hotel, transportation, excursions, meal plans and more! What is better, is she also was able to meet all our needs and desires and still come up a few hundred dollars under budget!

InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa

The Lagoonarium

On the Island of Tahiti Nui, we stayed at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa. First, my absolute favorite feature of this resort was the Lagoonarium. This lagoonarium is an artificial (man-made) lagoon that is fed by sea water and is filled with some of the most colorful fish that are native to the area. So when you go to swim in the Lagoonarium, you are literally swimming with the stunning fish that are native to the area and some of the most beautiful coral in the world. I highly recommend bringing a snorkel and goggles when you visit the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort & Spa, so that you can observe these sights as you swim! There are also two other swimming pools on the complex. One pool is right next to the Lagoonarium. Then there is a smaller infinity pool that overlooks the South Pacific and includes a swim up bar as well.

Overwater Bungalows

Two of the overwater Bungalows at the InterContinental Tahiti with a view of Moorea Island.

The InterContinental Resort & Spa in Tahiti does have amazing Overwater bungalows available to rent. They also have a few different types of Overwater Bungalows so that you can pick the perfect one for you. The smallest bungalows are called the Jr. Suite Overwater Bungalow Lagoon. the prices for these start at ~$520.00/night. This bungalow is a perfect location as it is right next door to the lagoonarium and has fantastic views of Mo’orea Island. However, if you are looking for an overwater bungalow that is a little more high end get the Overwater Motu Villa Suite. This suite can sleep up to 4 people and includes a balcony with stunning views, a luxurious bathtub, and is perfectly secluded. The price of Villas start at ~$650.00/night.

Early Check-In & Courtesy Rooms

It is also worth noting that most flights coming from the United States arrive in Papeete either early in the morning (ours arrived at 5:04 am) or late in the evening (around 09:00pm). Also the hotel is only about 10 to 15 minutes away from the airport. Therefore, if you are arriving early, be sure to request an early check in. The hotel does have courtesy rooms (which include toilets and showers) for their guests who arrive earlier than the check-in. I highly recommend making use of these courtesy rooms while you are waiting to check-in. These courtesy rooms include showers (with shampoo and bodywash), towels, toilets, and sinks. However, if you are arriving late. Check-in is a 3:00 pm. Be sure to call the front desk before you board you flight to Papeete and let them know that you will be arriving late in the evening.

Manava Beach Resort & Spa Hotel

Mo’orea Island

Image by VIRGINIE DUBOSCQ from Pixabay

Island as a whole reminded me of the French Polynesian version of a small sea side town in Florida, USA (like Seaside or Key West). While Tahiti Nui had more of an urban feel, Mo’orea was more quiet and felt more rustic. Due to the size and slower paced lifestyle of the island, Matt and I found the that we more and better access to beaches and the ocean. So if you wanted to go for a swim in the ocean, it was definitely much better.

Rooms and Bungalows:

Manava Spa and Resort (compared to the InterContentental Tahiti) was also smaller and and more quaint. However, Matt and I really enjoyed our time here! There are plenty of different styles of bungalows and rooms. While the Overwater bungalows seemed wonderful; they were not what Matt and I really wanted. We felt that they were a little too close to the other overwater bungalows around them. We also did not think that they gave us the privacy that we really wanted. With it being our honeymoon, Matt and I really needed something with much more privacy than what the Overwater bungalows could provide. Instead, we stayed in the Garden bungalow. These bungalows were fenced off and had a small private dunking pool. This bungalow ended up being everything that we needed it to be. If you are travelling with a family with kids, the Overwater and Beach Bungalows would be better suited for your needs. For couples definitely go with the garden bungalows during your stay.

Dinner and a Show

Photo by Vincent Camacho on Unsplash

When booking your trip to Manava Beach Resort & Spa, be sure to make sure you are there on a Saturday night. Every Saturday night at 7:30 pm there is a show featuring Traditional Polynesian dancing! Dinner is included and but it is by reservation only! Make sure to be sure to make reservations as soon as you can for dinner on Saturday.

Paraoro, Mo’orea

In town there are a few restaurants Restaurants, a Tahitian Black Pearl shop and a small grocery store. Also if you are searching for a second home in a stunning destination there is a Sotheby’s Reality office just a five minute walk away from the Resort. Other souvenir shops are also in town.

5 Reasons why your next Girls Only Spa Retreat should be at the Hotel Crescent Court

I have been in a total of five weddings, including my own. During my time as a bridesmaid, I have had a few awesome experiences and some experiences that were not as great. So, when the time finally came for me to be a bride I knew exactly what I wanted to do to show my appreciation for my bridesmaids, mother, and future mother-in-law. I have also come to realize that days leading up to the wedding are almost always the most stressful (for everyone…including some of the guests). Therefore, as a gift for my bridesmaids and the moms, I wanted to gift them with an experience rather than a tangible gift. For this gift, I chose to have a spa getaway the day before our wedding at one of the most best known and most luxurious 5-star locations in the area, Hotel Crescent Court.

Our experience having a spa weekend getaway at Hotel Crescent Court did not just meet; but rather exceeded all of our expectations! We all loved every bit of it. If I was forced to redo any aspect of my wedding weekend, I would not change a single thing. Here are my five reasons why I would book another girls only Spa Getaway at Hotel Crescent Court in a heartbeat.

Great Prices for the Quality of Service

There are quite a few luxury 4-star and 5-star hotels in Dallas, TX. All of which offer elegant suites and most of which offer great spa amenities. After doing some research, I found that Hotel Crescent Court offered the spa services I wanted to give my bridesmaids and mothers at a more reasonable price than other hotels of the same (and sometimes lower) caliber. Because their prices were so reasonable, I was able to pay for even more spa services that I was originally planning on purchasing. I ended up giving everyone a 50 minute massage, a 50 minute pedicure, a 25 minute manicure, and a 50 minute facial.

The prices for the rooms are also more reasonable than expected. I was also able to afford an the astonishing Uptown Suite on the top floor for an overnight stay. But more on this awesome suite later.

The Spa is Amazing

The award-winning spa is located in the lowest level of the Hotel Crescent complex. As we arrived in the 22,000 square foot spa we were immediately greeted by an associate who gave us a tour of their state of the art facilities. These facilities include: steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, cold tub, showers, lounges, and a weight room/workout facility. Of course the Hotel Crescent Court offers a wide variety of spa services. But we highly recommend the Rose Grand Cru Facial, the French Clay Detox Body Therapy, and the Stone Therapy Massage.

A wide variety of wellness/fitness classes are offered at the Hotel Crescent Court Spa. There are a wide variety of fitness classes for all levels of fitness. We recommend the Yoga Stretch, Body Balance, and the Core and More Sculpting classes.

The Uptown Suite

In previous weddings, other members of the bridal party and I stayed have always stayed at a hotel the night before. However, often times there was never really enough space or beds for everyone, so a few people had to sleep on the couch. Trust me, it is never fun when you are staying in a suite at a 4-star to 5-star hotel and end up sleeping on the couch. So, with my wedding, I wanted to avoid this situation at all costs for my bridesmaids.

The Hotel Crescent Court stood out to me as I was doing my research; because when compared to other hotels of the same caliber in the area, the Crescent had more affordable suites. To top it off, compared to the other hotels, I found that Hotel Crescent Court had suites that were more like apartments. When I read about the amenities for The Uptown Suite, I knew this was the suite that we needed. This amazing suite is two stories and includes; 2 bedrooms (each fully equipped with King sized beds and TV’s), 2.5 bathrooms, a large dining table, living area, a sun room, butlers’ pantry, coat closet, and exquisitely large landscape windows. If you are looking into a nice staycation with a few of your girlfriends, we highly recommend you look into the Uptown Suite (get the one on the 7th floor).

It’s so quiet

Photo courtesy of Hotel Crescent Court

Not enough can be said about how much I appreciate quietness. There have been so many times at other hotels where we could hear people in the halls, arguments about “lack of communication” in the room next door, and even noise from outside. Despite it’s location in the middle of Oak Lawn, we had no trouble at all with ambient city noises bothering us during the day or waking us up in the middle of the night. As far as noises in the hallway, we never heard anyone in the hallway. Really truly, the only ambient noises we could hear, were the sounds that other members of our party made as they moved around in the suite taking care of their own business. It is easy for us to conclude, that the lack of external noise was the absolute linchpin for our wonderful stay at the Hotel Crescent Court.

Stunning Interior Design

Photo courtesy of Hotel Crescent Court

Picture stunning 1920’s Art Deco Design but with a more Modern twist. You have just imagined that lovely interior of Hotel Crescent Court. The interior designer (waldrop+nichols studio, llc) has truly outdone themselves with creating one of the most welcoming designs we have ever seen. The natural lighting in the grand foyer and the guest rooms offers guests with a sense of genuine happiness as if the weight of the world has momentarily been lifted off your shoulders. We can honestly say, that (until our stay at Hotel Crescent Court) we have never experienced a hotel that has a genuine ability to call us in with its interior design saying “Come, get away from all your worries of the world and sit with us. Relax, all will be well.”

The Vendors that Helped us Achieve the Wedding of our Dreams (even during a COVID-19 Lockdown)

It is so hard to believe that our wedding was only 12 days. While my husband and I had the time of our lives. I think I can honestly speak for the both of us (as well as our families) when I say that we are more than relieved that it is over! But needless to say, we did have the time of our lives while celebrating our wedding. Of course, none of that would be possible with out the amazing vendors who have stepped up during the tumultuous time and helped us achieve the wedding of our dreams! Here is the list of the major vendors that we used and our honest opinion of each

Venue: Filter Building at White Rock Lake

The location is perfect because it has an amazing view of White Rock Lake. But it is also nestled away in Lakewood, making it a little more private and secluded than many other wedding venues in the Dallas Metroplex. Under normal circumstances the venue can only fit about 200 people. However, with current state regulations it is only able to allow for 50% of its capacity. Therefore, it can only allow about 100 guests (inside). Which was more than what we needed for our event. The price for renting this unique, historic venue was unbeatable.

Here’s a few things you should know before you book:

  • Like most weddings, communication can get kind of crazy (especially closer to the date of the event). To help prevent this, any questions/concerns that you have for the venue regarding your event needs to come directly from the bride/groom only.
  • You are given a 2 hour walk through of the venue with your venue prior to this event.
  • However, the 2 hour walk through is only from Monday to Thursday (We ended up doing our rehearsal on a Friday at a different location).

Coordinator: Tie-A-Bow Special Event Planning

With all of the national and global events that have occurred between Thanksgiving of last year to now, this event could not have been accomplished without the help of Jennifer Hines at Tie-a-Bow Special Event Planning. She helped us come up with really great cost effective ideas that added a little extra “umph” to the decor and design. She helped us find vendors that were within our budget. Finally, she came up with practical yet effective ideas and solutions that would help limit the spread of COVID-19 and give our guests a piece of mind during our special day.

Daley Kappenman is the incredible woman behind the amazing photos on this post and some of my Instagram posts. We specifically choose her for a few reasons. But one of the biggest reasons, is she is really good at capturing the personalities of her subjects as well as the dynamics of the relationships in her photos. Daley started out with doing our Engagement Photos, which turned out amazingly! Matt and I both really enjoyed working with her, so we decided to hire her (and her husband) for our Wedding photos. They not only were able to take the amazing photos you see on this post; but they were also able to keep us running on time (if not early). Huge Kudos to Daley and her husband Donald!

Floral: Lace Bouquet

I love, love, love flowers! The florals are easily my favorite part of any wedding and they have a magical yet elegant way of pulling together all the colors and creating the desired ambiance. The colors I picked for my wedding included Dusty Blue, Misty Grey, and Lavender Purple. This combination of colors are not often used together in weddings. Because I used such a uncommon color scheme, I wanted a florist that has experience using an uncommon combinations of flowers.

The Lace Bouquet, caught my attention on Instagram before my husband even proposed. I fell in love with her unusual flower selection in the bridal and great taste in flower arranging. She is wonderful to work with and came up with some really amazing cost effective ideas that would still help us make the venue look amazing without breaking the bank.

Caterer: Two Sisters Catering

Hands down, best catering food I have ever eaten in my life. Prior to COVID-19, we had catered food a lot at work. I have found that most catered food tastes the same. But the catering from Two Sisters does not fit this category by any means. The Chef (Brock Boyd) does an amazing job with mixing and matching different spices; then combining them and makes them into this wonderfully delicious dish. For example for our wedding we chose Avocado Deviled Eggs, Grilled Peach wrapped in Prosciutto, Salad with a Greek Yogurt and Sriracha Dressing, and Grilled Chicken covered in a Mustard Sauce. The food was amazing and the left overs have fed my husband and I for the last week.

DJ: DJ Haze

DJ Haze did an amazing job and we loved working with him! During the Ceremony, he did an excellent job at coordinating the music to the processional and recessional. After the ceremony, he played a wonderful mix of genres for the cocktail hour and dinner; all of which perfectly fit the mood. The dancing, however, was the best part of the wedding (as it always should be). DJ Haze had a couple of assistance working with him. His assistants would join us (and even sometime lead) the guests on the dance floor. At times even DJ Haze himself, would make it a point to join us in dancing during the reception. We all had a great time!

Calligrapher: Bethany’s Letter Shop

Photography by: Daylilies Photography

Not enough can be said about this lovely lady that will do her justice. She has been tremendously helpful during the whole process of preparing for a wedding. (Due to unforseen circumstances with Covid) she was able to step in at the last minute an help design some of the most beautiful wedding invitation suites I have ever seen. But she does not only do invitation suites. For our wedding, she provided me with “Mr.” and “Mrs.” signs, uniquely designed table number, a cake topper, and a seating chart for the reception. She also created an amazing welcome sign for our guests. I highly, highly recommend Bethany as your wedding calligrapher.

Cakes: Dallas Affairs

This was a choice that my husband and I made together prior to the wedding. From the moment we started talking with them we knew that we were in good hands! When we first met with them, the meeting itself was nearly 2 hours long. We discussed everything we needed to discuss regarding our wedding cake. There were even aspects of the wedding caked and grooms cake design and delivery that we did not even know exists; nevertheless, these were all discussed. By the end of our meeting, we both had a very clear understanding of what the cakes would look like, how they would taste, and so on.

And of course, the cakes were absolutely stunning and tasted amazing.

After my engagement, I seriously considered having a destination wedding. Of course, my dream venue for a destination wedding would have been a unique (yet stunning) French chateau. This would allow my guests and I to spend a ween on vacation, then celebrate the end of the week with a wedding. Eventually, we decided to stay in the Dallas area for my wedding.
